What is Blackrock?

Blackrock Publishing Co., Ltd. is a little newsletter that I originally cooked up in order to stay in touch with a friend as she cruised the seven seas. Unfortunately, said friend decided that friendship's fulcrum is set on money, and by being a poor college student that also some how manages to live on his own, I got the shaft (can't make the scene if you don't have the green is what I believe the Mask said.) Regardless, the newsletter carried on, and for a year I wrote the paper in its entirety, from articles to interviews to writing lessons to language lessons to music reviews and so forth...until, while taking a full course load at college, working full time, and dealing with family escaped from an asylum, I burnt out in a most glorious fashion.
Recently, however, I was once again bit by the writing bug, as you can tell from my previous posts. However, until I get the first few chapters of my book down in a way that I like, I am taking up writing Blackrock once again! I'll post a few articles here, so enjoy!

Please note that all writing is from my head, and that any instances where I've borrowed characters from another corporation (i.e., Disney, etc.) is strictly for a satirical purpose; parodies, people. And who doesn't love a good parody, hmmm?

Oh, and I'm kinda glad that I can choose an emote other than "Excited" now. Seems that I got stuck on that one (unintentionally), and now I'm free from that. Scary...I've never been so excited for so long in my life! Enjoy!

Almost Really Ready

Indeed, I am almost really ready to finally, completely, totally lay into my intended series. I've been taking some time refining, retuning, and transcribing some notes, been laying out plot points and developing a hopefully logical sequence of plot points and character introductions and so forth, and heck, have even given the series a name! Well, a work-in-progress name...something along the lines of, "The Land of the Three Suns," or, "The Three Suns Accounts." Three Suns is figurative. In the earlier history of our world, many great nations used the sun to describe their empires; King Louis XIV of France is often referred to as "The Sun King;" "The sun never sets on the British Empire," was once quoted in reference to the empires immensity and greatness; Japan is still referred to as "The Land of the Rising Sun." Other references to other empires and civilizations still exist. Three primary civilizations/races are featured in this first series of books. Each has different strengths and weaknesses, each has different areas of reader appeal and dislike. They are my three suns, and though other civilizations may grow and exist, these three will continue as the other civilizations eventually die out or become assimilated by the three suns. Seems like it might be fun!
So okay, on another note, I showed the amazing piece of work that :iconmorrokko: did for me of my two main characters to a friend of mine. She once seemed fairly keen as to my writing, but when I showed her the piece, she said, "What? Wolves? You're writing about animals? Kind of silly, huh?" So yes, these are anthropomorphic wolves, if you will. What of it? I wanted to involve anthropomorphs in my writing for a couple of reasons. One, I'm a big fan of wolves and werewolves and werewolf lore. I loved the stories of wolves that walked and talked like men that I heard as I grew up, and as I read more and more werewolf-related folk tales and legends, I liked them more and more...much more than vampires. My characters started out as werewolves before they started out as "furries," just so you know.
Second reason. The first books, y'know, the ones dealing with the anthropomorphs? They deal with some pretty heady stuff, such as alcoholism, abuse, death, murder, revenge, and just all-around cold-hearted cruelty and hate and bigotry. I picked anthros as the main characters for a reason. It's based on my understanding of the word "inhuman." See, in observing the animal kingdom in a natural habitat, you learn a few things. You learn that most animals have a distinct family unit, and that they will defend this unit no matter their size or the size of their assailant. They take care of each other, they defend each other. They have little if any conscious acts of sadism or vengeance, hold no grudges, have very few bouts of irrationalism. Yet humans, despite their great potential for good and all of their absolutely amazing qualities, often hold grudges, exact vengeance, revel in making others miserable when they are miserable, abuse others and abandon our young and our families. In other words, everything that we say is "inhuman," we do. In these books, especially the first one, I want to show from an "animal's" point of view that, despite their magnificence, humanity has as much claim to inhumanity as their co-occupants in their world.
'Course I'm not going to solely vilify humans! After all, this is not a political treatise; this is a book, and should be entertainment. Good and bad characters from all races and walks of life will be introduced and expounded upon and rewarded and killed off. Just the way I roll, I guess. Hopefully I'll be able to have something working as far as a few chapters go by the end of next month.
As an aside, I've started writing my newsletter again. Filled with all sorts of surreal and parodic and kind of off-humor made-up articles, the newsletter had a bit of a following until things in my life took a very interesting roller coaster loop. I need a bit of a stress relief, and I love to write, so hopefully by the end of next week I'll have something written!

See ya later!

Wow! I haven't updated this thing in, well, pretty much ever. Used to have fairly consistent updates, but for the most part, I only recently returned to dA. Tried to remove my account and thusly everything contained therein. I do that every now and then, having at times grown tired of the steady influx of poorly drawn manga characters; emo submitters who complain while, at the same time, live at home with their parents and no bills, etc.; and poorly done nude art (I agree, the nude body can be a work of art (see the Venus de Milo), but very rarely does anyone master the nude-as-art techniques necessary (in my opinion)). I'm not saying that all manga art is poorly done, and that there aren't people who truly deserve or have to be emo (though that whole scene just doesn't compute for me), or that tasteful nude art doesn't exist. Art is in the eye of the beholder; I reckon that, to most people, my eyes are fairly flawed (i.e, optometrists.) I stay on dA mainly to keep in contact with a few friends made independently through the site and made primarily through the site. 'Nuff said.
The book has been jump started! Now that the college semester's over, brainstorming sessions and note consolidation has restarted in earnest. New characters have been introduced, old characters refined, settings and scenery have been altered and revamped...I'm feelin' good, how you feelin', eh? The same basic premise of the story has not changed, but with the additional information given (and, at the same time, extraneous information purged), I can continue the series along so many different paths: from the human point of view, from the sennen point of view, from the khalothi, from the sciocrats, from the cibeans....Kind of over whelming when I think about how many different ways I can take this world. But for now, I'm working on the sennen portion of the books (and for those interested, the sennen COULD be called anthropomorphs, but the stories are not solely dedicated to the realm of "furry" fandom. Nothing wrong with that, from one fan of the form to another." I'm excited! Sat down the day before with a voice recorder and finished what I needed for subsequent character development, and I plan on finishing the details needed for the settings tonight. By Friday, hopefully, I plan on having a flexible, working outline of the first book, complete with prologue.
Also, thanks to :iconmorrokko: for letting me commission a piece of her work! She's an amazing artist, and I encourage all who read this to visit her gallery and gaze in wonder. You won't be disappointed!
Saraba ja!
